Over The Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito – 8 Miles

Our main shop at 425 Jefferson Street is conveniently located in Fisherman’s Wharf, just half a block from the start of the Golden Gate Promenade Bike Path, and the start of the best urban bike ride in the world: the eight mile ride over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Find out for yourself why it’s so popular- the best thing you will do in San Francisco!

The ride begins at Fisherman’s Wharf near the Powell/Hyde cable car turnaround. You will then ride along a mostly car-free and flat bike path (with only one hill on the way to the Golden Gate Bridge). You will ride through Aquatic Park, Fort Mason, the Marina, and Presidio National Park to near the base of the bridge, where the Warming Hut and historic Fort Point are located. You’ll cross the bridge on the sidewalk path (separated from automobiles) with stunning views of the city and bay, and then ride downhill into the charming bayside town of Sausalito. Once there, most people enjoy the views, eat, relax, shop and enjoy Sausalito’s famously wonderful weather before returning by ferry to San Francisco with their bikes. Please note that on busy days there can be limited space for bikes on ferries, so lines will form late in the afternoon on weekends and during summer holidays, so start early to avoid lines for bring bikes on the ferries. The total distance from Fisherman’s Wharf to Sausalito is approximately 8 miles and takes most visitors 1.5 to 2 hours to get to Sausalito, going slowly, taking pictures and enjoying themselves.
